Annual Summer Picnic – July 17th, 2-6pm
Join us IRL this Sunday, July 17!
You’re invited to the 2022 AAJA Seattle Summer Picnic — an in-person, outdoor social gathering with food, friends and fun from 2-6 p.m. at Jose Rizal Park.
Summer greetings, AAJA Seattle friends!
The weather is great and the summer is flying by. Don’t miss the chance to connect with friends for fun in the sun at AAJA Seattle’s annual Summer Picnic. This year we’ve reserved a spot at Jose Rizal Park, and will have free food and soft drinks with summery tunes to enjoy as we catch up with each other in a historic outdoor setting from 2-6 p.m.
Think of it as the pregame to the AAJA National Convention!
AAJA Seattle Chapter members, their friends, families, colleagues and pets are all invited. Please RSVP using the link above to ensure we have a good headcount and enough food.
This year we’ll be providing individually-wrapped mini banh mi, kathi rolls, watermelon juice and iced tea. There will be a mix of meat, vegetarian and vegan options.
We also invite you to bring a favorite #VeryAsian snack or side to share.
We’ll provide the labels so you can share the ingredients and let us know whether it’s your grandmother’s dumplings or your own secret haupia recipe. Store-bought snacks are just as good. We just ask that you be mindful of hygiene and portioning in preparation of sharing and serving.
We’ll be hanging out from 2-6 p.m. this Sunday, July 17. Come early for the freshest food.
1007 12th Ave. S, Seattle, WA 98144
For those of you unfamiliar, Dr. Jose Rizal Park is named for the revered 19th-century Filipino intellectual and political activist. The park itself is know for it’s dynamic views of downtown Seattle, Puget Sound and the Olympics.
We’ll be stationed under the blue-roofed pavilion, which has ADA-compliant access. There’s also an off-leash dog area and small play area and a public restroom. This is in an urban setting and close to roadways, so know that you will hear traffic noise.
There’s a parking lot as well as street parking along 12th Ave. The park is located diagonal (about a block) from the 12th Ave S & S Judkins St. bus stop. It’s about a 25-minute walk from the King Street Station in the Chinatown/International District, and a six-minute walk south from the Jose Rizal Bridge.
The health protocols
This will be a mask-optional gathering and encourage you take a courtesy COVID test beforehand, follow best health practices and be respectful of people’s varying comfort levels and needs for space. We will have a sign-in for contact tracing purposes.
Reach out to us via Facebook or email@example.com if you have any questions about the location, need any food, transportation and/or accessibility accommodations.
Thanks, and we hope to see you on Sunday!
